Kpler nuclear modulation | Oct 2024

In recent years nuclear modulation activities have been surging in France. However, ranking reactors by total modulation volume highlights significant disparities between sites.

Which French nuclear units are modulating most?

  • The Cattenom plant stands out as the most modulating site between 2023 and 2025. With four 1.3 GW pressurized water reactors, and commissioned between 1986 and 1991, Cattenom represents one of the most modern sites of the French fleet.
  • Other 1.3 GW units (P4) such as Paluel, Saint Alban, and Golfech and Nogent also exhibit strong modulation.
  • Older reactors such as Bugey (CP0) and Gravelines (CP1), commissioned between 1978 and 1980, favour stable baseload generation.
