Kpler Market Insight Forum 2026 - Taking place during IE Week

A highly experienced professional with over 25 years of trading and broking experience in the energy market, I joined Kpler in 2022 as Head of Market Engagement for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. I work closely with clients to provide advice and support across the energy sector, leveraging data and analytical tools to offer expert counsel on market trends and potential opportunities. With my extensive knowledge and expertise, I was instrumental in supporting the launch of the AG fuel oil derivative contract in 2016 and continue to advise traders, exchanges, and PRAs across the sector. My career in the energy market has included positions as a trader for energy house Trafigura, a director in London for Nigerian energy company Oando, and more recently, a director at the brokerage house Starfuels. Throughout my career, I have developed a strong reputation as an industry expert and regularly appear as a commentator on energy for newspapers, radio, television, and newswires. I am actively involved in the energy industry and sit on various panels as an expert, sharing my insights and knowledge with others in the field.

Amena Bakr is the Head of Middle East Energy & OPEC-plus research at Kpler, based in Dubai. She leads oil market analysis, OPEC policy research, and risk assessments in the Middle East. Previously, she was a senior research analyst at Energy Intelligence Group and served as Chief OPEC Correspondent and Dubai Deputy Bureau Chief for eight years, earning multiple journalism awards, including the 2023 OPEC award for best journalist. She also worked as an Energy Correspondent for Reuters in Dubai, Doha, and Riyadh, covering energy and political risk. Amena holds a BA in Business Administration from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport in Egypt, with a major in management information systems.

Naveen joined the Kpler Insight team as a Senior Analyst in April 2025, bringing with him over 10 years of cross-commodity experience from both the analysis and trading side. He started his career as a desk analyst at INEOS covering light ends, before moving to Argus Media on the solid fuels side to help build out their data offering on coal and petroleum coke. More recently, Naveen has worked on the paper and West Africa desks at Chevron before joining DV Energy as the lead analyst and trader. He built out the fundamental analysis platform and traded a wide range of financial derivatives at DV Energy. Naveen is London based and holds and MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge as well as an MSc in Management from Imperial College London.

Roslan is the Principle Heavy Distillates Analyst in Kpler's Insight team. He has over a decade of international experience in the energy industry, with particular expertise in Asia and the Middle East. He began his career in the media industry, first as a freelancer across SEAsia, Middle East and Central America, and then as a Reuters energy journalist in Singapore where he specialised in the global fuel oil markets, but often reported on middle and light distillate markets as well as on crude oil and shipping. Having cultivated a strong and diverse network over the years, he moved into the analytics space in 2022, and is skilled at leveraging data and his own market intelligence to deliver sharp insights that help clients identify critical risks and opportunities. Roslan is based in Singapore, and holds an MSc in Finance & Investments from the Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands. He is fluent in English, Arabic and Bulgarian, and has lived in over a dozen countries.

Esteban Moreno has seven years of experience in the energy sector, spanning corporate strategy, market analysis, and refined products balance modelling. He began his career at Spain’s Moeve (formerly Cepsa) as a Strategy Advisor, contributing to medium- and long-term planning across upstream, downstream, and energy transition businesses. In May 2022, he joined Kpler as an Oil Products Analyst, delivering analytically driven market views to support trading decisions and developing expertise in refined products supply and demand modelling. He now leads Kpler’s refined products demand forecasting and provides analysis of liquids markets and the refining sector.

Helima is a Managing Director and the Head of Global Commodity Strategy and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Research at RBC Capital Markets. She specializes in geopolitics and energy, leading a team of commodity strategists that cover energy, metals, and cross-commodity investor activity, as well as policy analysis and both Washington and global political insights. Helima is a member of the National Petroleum Council, a select group of individuals who advise, inform, and make recommendations to the Secretary of Energy with respect to any matter relating to oil and natural gas. She also is a CNBC contributor, a member of the channel’s exclusive family of experts. Helima is on the Board of Directors for the Atlantic Council, is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and is on the Advisory Council for the Department of History at Princeton University. She is on the Board of Directors of Reservoir Media, Inc., the first female-founded and led publicly traded independent music company in the US. Helima joined RBC Capital Markets from Barclays, where she was a Managing Director and Head of North American Commodities Research. Prior to that, she worked in Lehman’s Business Intelligence Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Central Intelligence Agency, where she focused on geopolitics and commodities. Helima has received many industry accolades throughout her career and received her PhD in economic history from Princeton in 2001.

John is the founder and managing director of Base Research, a consultancy specializing in global oil and energy systems. He publishes a newsletter three times a week and a daily digest of “Best in Energy” news and research read by more than 15,000 people every day. Before starting Base Research in 2024, John was chief commodities analyst at Reuters news agency for 16 years, leading a high-profile team of specialists covering oil, gas, power, industrial metals and agricultural commodities. His career in commodities began as a trading floor analyst for Sempra Metals, now part of JPMorgan. John has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.

Matthew Wright is the Lead Freight Analyst at Kpler. In his role, he leads on providing clients with expertise, analysis and research on the freight markets. Prior to Kpler, Matthew was a Senior Tanker Analyst at SSY ship brokers, where he was responsible for analysing oil tanker markets, leading the development of new models and handling consulting inquiries. Matthew has extensive oil market experience from seven years in consulting at Argus Media where he worked on a range of single client projects before moving on to manage the delivery the subscription reports focusing on freight, crude and refined products.

Gillian joined Kpler in September 2024 and leads our global LNG and natural gas service across Flows and Insight. She has worked in the commodity industry for the past 15 years with roles spanning research, trading and consulting. She has focused on the gas and LNG markets for the past 11 years, initially working as a hedge trader for the LNG desk at Gazprom Marketing & Trading and later leading the Natural Gas team for Energy Solutions at McKinsey & Company serving clients on strategic and commercial topics globally. Gillian is based in London and holds a Phd in Atmospheric Physics from Ecole Polytechnique and an MSci in Physics from Imperial College.

Laura joined Kpler in July 2021 and is leading the build-out of the natural gas and LNG Insight service, which has comprehensive coverage of LNG, European and US natural gas market fundamentals, as well as JKM, TTF and Henry Hub price forecasts. She has been analysing commodity markets for over 12 years, covering a broad range of markets including metals, fertilisers, European power and LNG. Laura has been focusing on LNG markets since 2015, working at Argus Media as Deputy Editor of the LNG Daily report and at Refinitiv (now LSEG) as Lead LNG analyst. Laura is based in London and holds a BA and MSc in Economics from the University of Exeter.

Reid joined Kpler over six years ago as a crude analyst and has grown alongside the company ever since. Based in Houston, Reid has a near decade of experience studying the intersection between global demand conditions and the state of commodity markets with a particular focus on emerging markets. Before joining Kpler, Reid obtained a masters degree in Economics from the University of Houston. He also holds a bachelors degree in Finance. You will regularly find him quoted in the financial press or appearing on tv to provide timely updates on the state of commodity markets across the globe.
