Nigeria's Train 7 LNG project passes 90% completion mark: NLNG Chief Executive Falade

Nigeria LNG's 8 mtpa Train 7 project is now over 90% complete, with the company's immediate priority being to deliver the remaining work safely, efficiently and to the required quality while preparing the plant for reliable and sustainable operations, according to an NLNG statement.

Chief Executive Adeleye Falade delivered the update during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja today.

The briefing also covered NLNG's broader role in Nigeria's gas development agenda, prospects for future expansion, and other issues affecting NLNG's operations and its wider contribution to Nigeria, in addition to the update on the Train 7 project's status, according to the statement. No timeline for the project to begin operations was mentioned.

Kpler Insight had put construction progress for the Train 7 project at 92% as of late May, up from 80% in June 2025. It forecasts Train 7 will load its first LNG cargo in July 2027, according to its LNG Monthly report published on Aug. 10.

Kpler Insight said it remains cautious on the start-up timeline given persistent feedgas supply constraints, with the pace of Train 7's ramp-up expected to depend heavily on gas availability from the Ubeta field. Ubeta, being developed by TotalEnergies and Nigeria's NNPCL, is scheduled to begin production in 2027.

The existing six-train NLNG plant on Bonny Island has a capacity of 22 mtpa; Train 7 is expected to lift that total capacity to about 30 mtpa.

According to Kpler data, NLNG exported 11.3 mt of LNG from Bonny LNG in the first seven months of this year, up from 8.79 mt over the same period last year.
